Season 2, Catholic History with Charles Coulombe, Episode 5: Galileo

Charles A. Coulombe

Charles A. Coulombe

One cannot study the Roman Inquisition without immediately looking to it's most infamous trial - Galileo Galilei.

Did the Catholic Church put science on trial?

Most modern historical works will answer a resounding yes and will also, in the same breath, say that the Church could not jeopardize its totalitarian control over the mind of man by allowing the progress of medieval science to gain a foot hold to weaken the chains of bondage by which it held its adherents.

But what does history truly reveal about what really happened, and why Galileo ran afoul of the Catholic Church? Do science and scripture contradict each other?

Join us for Part III as we close out our "Summer of Darkness" series as our distinguished guest, Charles A. Coulombe, and host Justin Soeder discuss yet another one of Catholicism's perceived darkest hours: Galileo.
