Work of Human Hands, Episode 7: Introductory Rites – The Meet and Greet

Work of Human Hands, by Father Anthony Cekada

Work of Human Hands, by Father Anthony Cekada

On this month's episode of Work of Human Hands, we will now transition from laying the groundwork of the New Mass by the revisers into looking forensically at the changes themselves. We begin with the Introductory Rites, and it does not take more than the sign of the cross to begin seeing the radical makeover, the prayers stripped, and the theology revolutionarily changed in the mass of Paul VI.

We will begin by discussing the Novus Ordo "meet and greet" theology where we revisit the man-centered horizontal dimension of the Novus Ordo, and give typical examples of how this is employed before and during the new Mass. The incessant chatter which is a hallmark of the typical Novus Ordo where those gathered in the Novus Ordo temple spend obscene amounts of time talking before the service begins is discussed and we will point the listener to exactly why this is; It is not by accident that this feature of the Novus Ordo is ubiquitous to everyone's experience.

Father will talk about the Asperges in the Novus Ordo versus the Traditional Asperges, the new Holy Water and why it is absolutely worthless, the disappearance of the Introit Antiphons, the stripping of the prayers at the foot of the altar as well as the trashing of the priestly gestures which emphasized the sinful nature of man. Speaking of sin...

We will proceed into the Penitential Acts of the New Mass and show how the rite of Paul VI is

one consistent denial of the existence of sin. Father will give the history of the Kyrie and why in the New Mass, the altering of the Kyrie is an implicit denial of the Blessed Trinity. We go step-by-step through the three penitential acts approved in the American Sacramentary (Acts A, B, and C) and take a deep look at each, particularly "A", which is the revised Confiteor.

Lastly, Father then takes us through the Gloria and its diminished usage in the Novus Ordo Liturgical Calendar versus its plentiful usage in the Traditional calendar, as well as the revised Collects in the new rite and will show how didactic and ridiculous the revisions were to them.

Join us as Father Anthony Cekada, author of the book and assitant pastor of St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church in West Chester, Ohio is joined by host Justin Soeder as they conduct another installment of Work of Human Hands.
