From the Pulpit, Episode 32: Avoiding Sin and the Necessity of Spiritual Reading

Fr. Joseph Selway

Fr. Joseph Selway

We welcome back Father Joseph Selway, Vice Rector of Most Holy Trinity Seminary, who will speak about avoiding falling into sin and spiritual reading.

According to St. Augustine, we can possess nothing more agreeable or more useful than peace. The way to obtain peace is to maintain a good conscience by avoiding sin, or by repenting and avoiding future relapsing into sin.

In the world today, due to the un-Catholic culture, it is imperative that we counteract the mentality of the world. The best way this can be done is through spiritual reading. Fr. Selway enlightens us with wisdom and shares a story of Saint Ambrose and how he turned from reading solely pagan authors to spiritual books.

In this episode, Father Selway offers a simple solution which can be practiced daily in order to gain and retain peace. Finally, Father reminds us of the benefits and necessity of spiritual reading.
