Season 4, From the Pulpit, Episode 34: True Patriotism and Teaching Children Religion

Father Anthony Cekada

Father Anthony Cekada

We welcome back Father Anthony Cekada to From the Pulpit. “Patriotism” is a word which has been used by political leaders to disguise evil with emotional appeals to loyalty to the state and country. It is important to look at patriotism from a Catholic perspective.

The noblest patriots throughout history are those who have dedicated their lives to the promotion of the Catholic Faith. This is where true patriotism lies.

Next, Father Cekada discusses the teaching of religion to children as he shares a story of the emperor, Napoleon. It is imperative that children are well instructed in the Catholic faith as this leads to souls who are less likely to be deceived and to fall into sin. Ignorance produces many evils, such as obscuring the intellect, hardening the heart and making it easier to misunderstand truths of the Catholic Faith.

Father Cekada puts forth two practical solutions in order to avoid ignorance and to instruct children in the Catholic Faith.
