From the Pulpit, Episode 38: The Holy Name of Jesus and Christ the King

Fr. Joseph Selway

Fr. Joseph Selway

We welcome back Father Joseph Selway, assistant pastor of Most Holy Trinity Seminary in Brooksville, Florida.

The Holy Name of Jesus is our sure protection against Satan and is of divine origin. Jesus means “Savior” or “Redeemer.” This name was given to Christ from God Himself when Mary conceived the Son of God.

Saint Anthony, on his deathbed, instructed his disciples to breathe the word, “Jesus,” and to imprint the Holy Name in their hearts. Saint Athanasius also preached that evil spirits fall powerless before Jesus’s name.

Secondly, Christ holds a dominion over all creatures by His very essence and His nature. This includes us. With His divine power, Christ commanded us to obey His commandments.

When we die, we will be judged; judged by Christ the King, based on our observance of His commandments.
