In Veritate, Episode 2: The Responsible Use of Money and a Preparation for Lent

The Coat of Arms of His Excellency

The Coat of Arms of His Excellency

On this episode of In Veritate, we will hear that a spirit of poverty is essential for sanctification. To be clear, there is nothing wrong with being rich and likewise, there is nothing wrong with poverty. Almighty God has deigned society to have both the rich and the poor, in order that society functions well.

If we have been given the grace of means, we must always be on guard and mindful to keep a right use of those means, avoiding giving into the many temptations that our materialistic world presents to us on a daily basis. We also have an obligation to act in a wise, prudent, and responsible manner with the money with which God has graced us.

Likewise, if one is not of means, or is even poverty stricken, it is incumbent upon him to bear that cross as a fruit of the tree of sin, but one that is willed by God for our salvation. The Holy Family gives us the greatest example of poverty, and they serve as the greatest symbol of poverty by which those who share in that cross may take hope, as it is a condition of sanctity.

In the second half of our episode, we now must realize that Lent is just around the corner and it is time to start thinking about mortifying our senses for the greater honor and glory of God. The modernist heretics preach that we should not mortify our senses, but let our spirits run free to our natural inclinations, and that we should “regulate” our passions in order to please everybody, excluding God. Of course, this is a lie and it results in slavery to ourselves and our passions, which is most certainly not pleasing to God.

Let us put in a solid effort this Lent so as to better ourselves, through the grace of God, and to preserve the life of grace in our souls so that when Easter arrives, we celebrate the most blessed and holy Easter we possibly can in 2015.
