In Veritate, Episode 4: Virtue of Hope and Happiness

The Coat of Arms of His Excellency

The Coat of Arms of His Excellency

By the virtue of hope, we fear no enemy. By the virtue of hope, we know God will grant us the grace to resist temptations. By the virtue of hope, we can thwart the onslaughts of the devil.

If we pray for the graces of eternal salvation, God will give them to us.

Hope is based on faith and is animated on charity. Hope is based on faith because it is impossible to trust in God unless we believe in Him. It is animated by charity because we must love the goal God sets for us: eternal salvation through the love of God.

All of us seek happiness. It is in our nature; our build. However, many, if not most, of us search for happiness by looking in the wrong places, discovering for ourselves that the things of this world cannot make us truly happy.

True happiness consists in meritorious acts of virtue, which are followed by a divine reward. Our Lord shows where true happiness lies in the Eight Beatitudes, in which Bishop Sanborn explores in this episode.
