Season 9, October Course: This is Catholicism

October, being the Church’s month dedicated to the Holy Rosary and the Holy Angels, brings us many great feasts, including the feast of the Holy Rosary on October 7th, commemorating not only that magnificent victory of the Rosary campaign called by Pope St. Pius V, but also this wonderful daily devotion so very dear to us Catholics. October 2nd and 24th bring celebrations in honour of the Holy Guardian Angels and St Raphael, respectively; the latter being the eve of the movable feast of Christ the King, being this month's sole Double of the First Class (unless you live in Australia or NZ, where the feast of their patroness St. Therese of Lisieux, October 3rd, also enjoys the privilege of that high ranking). When much of the Western world dresses up in ghoulish or silly costumes for Halloween, please remember to keep that last day of this month in the true spirit of the Vigil of All Saints.

This month we continue our signature catechetical series, This is Catholicism. In these eight new episodes, Father Philip Eldracher will discuss with Alexander Arthur the next section of A Complete Catechism of the Catholic Religion by Father Joseph Deharbe, S.J. which was originally written in German, and was very popular in the 19th century. Bishop Donald Sanborn finds the Deharbe Catechism to be the most complete to convert and instruct people in the Catholic Faith. The Two Great Commandments of God are discussed at length before beginning discussions on the Ten Commandments of God.
