The Councils, Episode 11: Third Council of Constantinople, Part I

In this episode a new pretender rises up in the place of monophysitism: monothelitism, which is the idea that Our Lord only had one will, instead of two wills that came from His two natures.

This episode is a particularly important one in our series in general as it deals in depth with the question of Pope Honorius and what he did and didn’t do. This is set against the backdrop of heterodox and interfering emperors who manage to cause civil trouble to match the ecclesiastical trouble. Worse, Islam lurks in the background, ready to sweep up through Africa and into the Middle East, onto the doorstep of Byzantium.

A special note of thanks to Nicholas Wilton for allowing us the use his music for this series. You can find out more about Mr. Wilton and his beautiful compositions here.
