Such luminaries as St. Gregory of Nazianzen, St. Gregory of Nyssa, and St. Cyril of Jerusalem are included in this important council, which dealt with the new heresies which grew from Arianism, but also was the first ecumenical council neither convoked by the Holy Father nor attended by his legates.
